Final ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Trailer: Battle Of the AIs

M3GAN faces her greatest foe yet, Amelia, while getting some kills along the way in the final trailer for M3GAN 2.0.

In November 2022, via The New York Times, it was revealed that Universal Pictures was very pleased with the box office reception of M3GAN and revealed plans for a sequel. Two months later, Gerard Johnstone confirmed talks of a sequel, M3GAN 2.0 and weeks later, we’d get not only the title and release date but confirmation that Johnstone would return to direct with Akela Cooper returning to write the script.

Today, Blumhouse has released its final trailer for M3GAN 2.0 ahead of the film’s release on June 27th. See the final trailer below:

The trailer begins with a man opening a crate containing the M3GAN 2.0, M3GAN narrates, saying, “Yes. It’s me. What a shock, etcetera,” as she bursts through the packaging and attacks the man. We see a brief glimpse of Gemma (Allison Williams) and Cady (Violet McGraw), followed by M3GAN with her upgraded design looking in the mirror. M3GAN says he biggest mistake was caring too much, which Gemma denies, saying her biggest mistake was killing four people and a dog.

After the Blumhouse and Atomic Monster logos, M3GAN explains that she isn’t the only killer robot, and we get a look at Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno). M3GAN describes her as even stronger, and we see glimpses of a city-wide blackout. M3GAN warns that Amelia is coming after everyone, including Gemma. We then cut to a scene where as scared Cady is hiding while Amelia approaches. M3GAN implies that she’s going to help take down Amelia. We then see a shot of her disguising herself. Gemma asks why M3GAN would even help them, to which she responds, “I was programmed to protect Cady”.

We see M3GAN confront Amelia, she teases her, “I guess I must be your only chance at redemption”. Gemma says “I’m sure you have no intention of murdering people,” and we cut to a montage of various kills M3GAN performs. She then shushes Gemma. We see M3GAN take control of a car followed by her flying through some mountains. We see M3GAN confront Amelia yet again, as well as torture some people. We cut to Gemma strapped to a table, a M3GAN-controlled armor helps Gemma take out numerous guards. After the logo, we see Gemma telling M3GAN to stay low at a concert, and she then proceeds to dance to a large crowd.

Read the official synopsis below:

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I icon is about to meet her match.
