‘Marvel Rivals’ Galacta’s Gift + Season 0 Battle Pass Return

Marvel Rivals was first announced back on March 27th, 2024 and showcased both cinematics and gameplay for the upcoming six-versus-six hero shooter. Additionally, fans were prompted to sign up for a Closed Alpha Test that we would later learn would run from May 10th – May 20th. 

Marvel Rivals has come a long way since then, boasting three seasons (Season 0 – Season 2), numerous maps and a large roster of 38 (soon to be 39) different characters to choose from. Today, the Marvel Rivals developers want to celebrate the one-year milestone of the Closed Alpha Test by hosting an event called Galacta’s Gift.

Marvel Rivals Galacta’s Gift Event Explained

On May 13th, the Marvel Rivals Dev Talk #14 was released detailing their plans to celebrate the one-year milestone of the Closed Alpha’s Release. In this blog post, it was revealed that the Galacta’s Gift event will begin on May 15th, following the latest update and details on rewards were shared.

By playing a certain number of matches, players can earn various free rewards such as Nameplates, Sprays, A Costume Coin and a new item called a Chrono Shield Card. The Chrono Shield card will act as a way to replenish your chrono shield for competitive matches instantly rather than losing a certain number of times. They cannot be purchased and will expire at the end of each season. 

Another change going into effect is that Chrono Shield Tokens and Chrono Shield Cards are only usable for Gold rank and below in order to ease the transition for lower-ranked players to enter ranked mode.

The event works similarly to the Pick-Me Up Bundle, where players have to play a total of 3 matches each day for the rewards. See each available reward in order below.

Season 0 Battle Pass Return, What It Means For Future Seasons

Another huge announcement in the blog post was the return of the Marvel Rivals Season 0 battle pass. Players will be able to purchase the pass between May 15th at 2AM PT / 5AM ET and May 29th at 2AM PT / 5AM ET, however, there are two things to note. Firstly the pass will see a 20% price increase from 490 Lattice ($5 USD) to 590 Lattice ($6 USD), additionally there will be no free rewards in the pass, players must purchase the pass in order to unlock any of the items such as the Black Panther Galactic Claw Costume, The Punisher Thunderbolts Costume, Doctor Strange God of Magic Costume, Hela Empress of the Cosmos Costume and Mantis Galactic Wings Costume.

NetEase has also talked about future passes returning. They state that, should future returns occur, they will also see a 20% price increase ($10 USD to $12 USD) and will return two seasons after their debut (Example: Season 1 pass could be available in Season 3). Whether future passes return or not will likely be a result of how well the Season 0 rerun performs.

Marvel Rivals is developed by NetEase and is available for free on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. The Galacta’s Gift event begins on May 15th at 2AM PT / 5AM ET.
