Paranoia Runs Amok in ‘Severance’ Season 2 Trailer
The marketing of Severance season 2 continues with a daring trailer that inflicts paranoia on the Lumon team.
With less than 6 weeks left for the premiere of the second season of TV+’s most on demand show, a new trailer for the show only fuels the excitement. Watch the Severance Season 2 trailer inside.
The trailer sets a paranoid tone for the trailer, with Adam Scott channeling his inner Tom Cruise with his sprints, and Harmony Cobel’s voice foretelling no honeymoon ending for Mark.
Severance follows a group of people who work at corporation Lumon Industries, where they have signed their lives away under the “Severance” program, which severs their work life from their home life, giving each respective life no knowledge of the inner workings of the other. When the workers begin to suffer under the endless autonomy of their work lives, they soon try to end their employment. The show’s synopsis reads as follows:
In Severance, Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in “work-life balance” is called into question as Mark finds himself at the centre of an unravelling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work … and of himself. In season two, Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe.
One of the strengths of Severance is the way it mixes dark humour with its paranoia, the same is reflected in the trailer, particularly with the final shot of the trailer. There are many cool shots in the trailer, one of them involving a transition to claymation.
The camera-work looks more dynamic this time around, and we see more of the new cast of the show. As a trailer, it does the job every trailer should, it doesn’t reveal anything in terms of plot, yet the images it packs strengthen the hype and intrigue. A rule of thumb observes season 2 of any show to be its making or breaking point, with the troubled and way-too-long production of this season, we can only hope season 2 lives up to or even surpasses its previous season, until then let’s savour every moment of the trailer equally.
Severance is created by Dan Erickson, directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle, and stars Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, John Turturro, and Christopher Walken. Season 1 of the series is already streaming on Apple TV+ with Season 2 slated to hit the service on January 17, 2025.
