The final runtime for Kraven the Hunter, starring Aaron Taylor Johnson, Ariana Debose, Russell Crowe, and more has been revealed.
What Is ‘Kraven The Hunter’ About?
Kraven the Hunter sees the origin story of the titular Spider-Man villain. This film will introduce a new take on the character that’s separate from the comics. When Sergei refuses to shoot a lion he’s attacked which leads to him getting Lion’s blood in his system. This allows him to form a psychic link with all animals which helps in taking out his new prey, Animal Hunters. However, in the comics, Kraven gets his powers through special herbal potions given to him by Calypso (played by Ariana Debose in the film).
The film will mark a milestone for the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) as it’s the first R-rated film. NYCC attendees were shown some scenes from the upcoming film and one described it as “violent and vicious as fuck”.
The plot is further explained in the synopsis:
Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.
The film is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe which allows the opportunity for Kraven to eventually meet with the other universe’s characters such as Jared Leto’s Morbius and Michael Keaton’s Vulture.
How Long Is ‘Kraven The Hunter’?
A new report from Cryptic4KQual reveals that the Kraven the Hunter runtime is 2 hours and 6 minutes long (1hr 50mins without credits). For reference, the other SSU films have the following runtimes:
- Venom – 1 hour and 52 minutes
- Venom: Let There Be Carnage – 1 hour and 37 minutes
- Morbius – 1 hour and 44 minutes
- Madame Web – 1 hour and 56 minutes
- Venom: The Last Dance – 1 hour and 50 minutes
This places Kraven the Hunter as the longest SSU film. The runtime is also similar to the universe’s other origin story films which indicates a good sign for those wanting a proper introduction to the character.
Kraven The Hunter is directed by J. C. Chandor and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott, Russell Crowe, and more. The film hits theaters on December 13th 2024.
