’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Early Reactions Reveal Good Things For Sequel
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple has premiered to great reactions ahead of its release early next year.
About six months following the release of 28 Years Later, the first instalment in the 28 Years Later trilogy from Danny Boyle and Alex Garland for Sony Pictures, a sequel is finally right around the corner and it has just screened to certain critics and press members. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple picks up directly after the first film, which saw Spike (Alfie Williams) left with the Jimmies (led by Jack O’Connell’s Jimmy Crystal). Also returning is the mad Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) who is attempting to develop a cure for the Rage virus. A third film is also in development but depends on the box office and reception of The Bone Temple before being greenlit.

The first reactions for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple have been released online, including two from Feature First’s own Zak Ahmed and Christopher Mills:

A lot of these reactions display a positive outlook on the film with next to no criticism, praising the performances and the chaotic environment. It is a similar reaction to the first installment of the trilogy. Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores are expected to release when the review embargo releases on January 13th, 2026.
This is the second Nia DaCosta film to premiere this year with Hedda, starring Tessa Thompson, for Amazon MGM Studios also releasing, even earning the lead actress a Golden Globe nomination earlier this week.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is directed by Nia DaCosta, written by Alex Garland, produced by Danny Boyle, and stars Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Chi-Lewis Parry, and Erin Kellyman. The film is due out in January 2026.
